There has been a church on this site since the 7th century and presumably a burial ground. The churchyard is unusual in that it is circular. There are some good examples of 17th century gravestones in the churchyard.
The old church and churchyard were left to decay in the nineteenth century when the Victorians built a new church and churchyard further up the hill. The Victorian church has gone, but it churchyard remains.
The Saxon church was restored and is still used to this day.
Name of church or churchyard: Escomb Saxon Church
