Strakonické muzeum bylo založeno v roce 1894. Podnetem se stalo porádání Ceskoslovanské národopisné výstavy v Praze v roce 1895. Od roku 1923 neslo v názvu jméno okresního školního inspektora Jana Dyka, který se zasloužil o jeho rozvoj a poválecné obnovení cinnosti. Do areálu hradu bylo po cetném stehování umísteno v roce 1936 a pro verejnost byly sbírky otevreny v kvetnu 1937 u príležitosti návštevy prezidenta Beneše ve Strakonicích. Nepríznive zasáhla do života muzea druhá svetová válka, kdy byla cinnost opet zcela zastavena. Rozhodnutím Krajského národního výboru v Ceských Budejovicích z brezna 1951 získalo puvodne mestské muzeum charakter okresního muzea a v roce 1953 bylo prejmenováno na Okresní vlastivedné muzeum ve Strakonicích. Jeho zrizovatelem se stal Okresní národní výbor Strakonice (od prosince 1989 do 31. 12. 2002 Okresní úrad). Duležitým mezníkem byl rok 1955, kdy bylo od 1. ledna muzeum oddeleno od archivu. V roce 1967 dostává muzeum svuj soucasný název Muzeum stredního Pootaví. S reformou verejné správy se od 1. ledna 2003 stává krajským muzeem, jehož zrizovatelem je Jihoceský kraj.

Strakonice Museum was founded in 1894. Stimulus became organizing Slavic ethnographic exhibition in Prague in 1895. Since 1923, bears the name of the name of the district school inspector Jan Dyk, who is credited with its development and post-war recovery activities. Within the castle was located after numerous removals in 1936 and public collections were opened in May 1937 on the occasion of the visit of President Benes in Strakonice. Adversely affected the life of the Museum World War II, when the activity again completely stopped. Decision of the Regional National Committee in the Czech Budejovice in March 1951 was originally acquired the character of the town museum and the Museum District in 1953 was renamed the District Museum of National History in Strakonice. Its founder became Strakonice District People's Committee (from December 1989 to 31 12. 2002 District Office). An important milestone was the year 1955, when the 1 January separated from the museum archives. In 1967 the museum received its present name of the Museum of Central Pootaví. With the reform of public administration, from 1 January 2003 became the county museum, whose founder is the South Region.
