It's said that the chapel (and the cross) was built by a Vidigueira count, as result of a promise fulfilled.
It's estimated that it has been built in the XVII century, due to the paintings in the interior of the church.
The cross is made out of stone and was used as the end of a local pilgrimage.

Diz a tradição que foi mandada erigir por um conde da Vidigueira, como resultado de uma promessa que tinha feito. Estima-se que tenha sido construída no século XVII, data apontada para as pinturas murais no seu interior que, embora bastante deterioradas, constituem a única decoração da capela.
A cruz é feita de pedra e era usado como local de peregrinagem.
