The Gran Cratere of the Fossa is the type example of a volcanic crater. Hot, sulphur steam belching fumaroles align the rim of its crater and are and are equally impressive. If you will climb to the summit at its southern rim (391 m), you will be rewarded by absolutely stunning 360° view over the Crater, Vulcano Island and Aeolian Archipelago...

Although Vulcano Island, one of famous Aeolian Islands at Sicilian coast, is dangerously dormant for over 100 years now, it must have been highly active in Ancient times. Vulcano is except the Gran Cratere of the Fossa also known for its hot springs and famous mud pools on the beach, allegedly having beneficent effects on your health.
