The tower is an original sculpture by Sir Anthony Caro and it was created in 1991. Caro voluntarily created the piece and was a patron of Poole Arts Council. The tower was sponsored by local businesses and it was refurbished in 2000.
Steps lead up to three staged levels on the tower, the uppermost one being the smallest platform. There are seats on the two lower levels and a telescope on the second level.
A view over Poole Harbour towards Brownsea Island is revealed and also the busy Sunseeker factory over the other side can be seen.
On the side of the tower is a plaque which reads:
