I have been by this rock cliff several times in my life and had always marveled at the hundreds of mud nests built along the face of it. Until today, I had never even paid attention to the base of it in which I found the names of early pioneers and settlers who had scratched out their names in the soft stone. There are dates I noticed dating back to 1887 and 1907 along with several newer names added through the years. Looking throughout the names for other dates, I came across several petroglyphs. One of a hunter, some eagles, a horse and what looks like a ghostly spirit. Many more are lost among the etched names and dates added since.
Doing a little research I discovered that there were two main Indian tribes that frequented the area in the early 1800's. They were the Northwestern Shoshoni and the Bannock, not to mention other roving bands that traveled through Southern Idaho.
You can visit this site any time of the day or year but I do discourage visiting it with snow on the ground as there is no immediate emergency personnel nor is there any cell phone signals in the canyon. This is in a fairly remote area although the road to it is in good shape.
