Welcome to Whangamata, the home of New Zealand’s biggest celebration of the 50’s & 60’s.
The first Whangamata Beach Hop was held in April 2001 and has been an annual event since then featuring 3 kinds of vehicles - Hot Rods, Classic Cars/Street Machines/Customs, and Motorbikes. In 2010, the 10th Anninversary Beach Hop will give away one of each....Yes - 1x Hot Rod, 1x Classic and 1x Motorbike. !!!

Held in the popular seaside holiday resort of Whangamata, this festival celebrates the music, culture, fashion, music, hot rods, motorbikes, dancing, dragsters, scooters of this golden era. The festival has grown from 4,000 to over 70,000 people in just 5 years. This makes it one of the largest events of its kind in the world. The highlight of the festival is over 1200 beautifully restored hot rods and classic cars, which take part in a huge grand parade down the main street, and other cruises to beaches up the coastline.

The 2010 Event takes place over the weekend of 24-28th March 2010.
Festival Entry to the public is free! However you are encouraged to purchase a festival programme for just $5 as a donation at one of the collection points. The money collected is used to pay for the festival and any profit made is donated to local emergency services.

Only pre-registered vehicles will be permitted to take part in any organised activity at the Beach Hop '10. This includes Waihi Warm Up Party, Cragar Tairua Beach Party, Thunder Cruise, Drive-in-Movie and Grand Parade.

As the Beach Hop is about the 50's & 60's it is preferred that the vehicles reflect that era. Cars permitted are Hot Rods and any vehicle made before 1972. USA made cars from 1972 to 1985 may also apply to enter.

Car Shows:
Beach Hop 2010 will see the entrants split into 4 different cars shows that run from 8am to 6pm. There will be Car Shows in 3 other reserves around Whangamata and all other cars will park in these areas. Each Car Show will have bands, trade stalls & toilets. Cars at each Show will be voted by the public for the Top 5 overall with the winners going forward to the Top 10 Shoot Out on Sunday. There will also be a Prize for the Coastguard & School Car Shows. This means more chance of winning a prize.

Registered entrants may choose to park at any car show if they wish – except the Ultimate Pass area which is exclusive. There will be a major give away prize at each reserve at various times throughout the day to encourage people to move around.
