Lydia Bloor lived from 1881 to 1982. In 1881 photography was in its infancy, and by 1982 Lydia could have rented a movie to watch on her own vcr.
At the time of her birth, Canada had been a country for only 14 years and BC had only been a province for 10 years. She would have lived under every prime minister from John A. MacDonald to Brian Mulroney and would have seen the Yukon, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Newfoundland join confederation. At the time of her birth, England's Queen Victoria still had twenty years left on the throne.
Lydia would have turned twenty during the Boer War, thirty-five during the First World War, fifty during the Second World War, and ninety during the Viet Nam War.
She is buried near Gibsons, BC but it is highly unlikely that she was born there. The founder, George Gibson, did not arrive there until Lydia was five years old, and she would already be an adult when the town was incorporated in 1929.
If she lived there at that time she would have received supplies and mail on the twice-weekly boat from Vancouver. By the time of her death, there was a ferry running several times a day.
