This old gas station stands across the street from the Montpelier Station depot and just down the road from President James Madison's Montpelier estate.

If old stations could talk, this one would most likely have stories of some grand autos that stopped here. By the time automobiles were the main mode of transportation the Madison estate had been sold and was owned by the Dupont family. The family liked to entertain and race thoroughbreds on a track at the estate so who knows which cars stoppped here.
The station and small grocery store is long closed, but the building continues to be reborn. For years it was the gift shop for Montpelier. Now, it is home to offices.
