In 1980 this area was used for a big gardening exhibition, the "Grün 80"; locals usually still name the park like this. After the exhibition the area was made to a permanent public park. It has areas with flowers, forest, large grass areas, three ponds, two playgrounds, a carousel, the longest dinosaur model of the world, a restaurant and other things. It is neighbouring a large sporting area with facilities for almost every sport that is exercised in the region, and the botanical gardens of the local university; these two are not part of the park, but they fit very well together and make the ensemble really large. The coordinates is next to the restaurant close to the main entry in the South.
Caveat: Don't go there on the 1st of May. Then the park is the finish of the annual "crates run". Thousands of young people participate in a bizarre race and bear large crates of beer over several kilometers with the aim of reaching the park with empty bottles. Then this location can be disgusting and extremely dangerous. Local authorities have been trying to stop this for quite a while now, but they cannot deal with the fact that there are no organizers of any kind. This is a completely uncontrolled phenomenon. However, the other 364 days of the year the park is safe.
