John Angus Hale lies in the historic Trinity Episcopal Church churchyard. His tombstone bears the engravings of a worker with hard hat standing on a steel grid while guiding an I-beam and two crossed wrenches. Research reveals little about Hale's personal life, but the depiction is that of a steelworker.

The inscription reads:

THE LEGACY THEY LEAVE FOR US IS VERY
PLAIN TO SEE.
WE HAVE A BRIDGE TO WALK ACROSS
BECAUSE OF MEN LIKE THESE.

This epitaph probably is an indication that John Hale's specialty was steel bridge construction.
