The nursery business has been an important part of York's history since early days. C.S. Harrison was prominent in York's early history, and the nursery he founded operated for decades.
Todd Faller got his start working in a "chain store" environment and decided he could fare better as an independent businessman. He first operated from quarters 217 W. 16th Street, but rapidly outgrew that location. So he looked for a good location, and in 1999 chose the northwest corner of Highway 34 and North Delaware Ave., about a mile north of York's northern city limits.
The business occupies several acres, with a rustic log structure serving as headquarters and sale room. The surrounding landscaping demonstrates what it possible in our plains environment. The greenhouses are filled with an enticing variety of vegetables and ornamental plants throughout the seasons. In 2009, Faller's collaborated with the local 4-H program to do a thorough introduction to vegetable gardening to young people. It received state-wide recognition through a segment on Nebraska Educational Television's "Backyard Farmer" program.
