St John The Baptist Church is located in the little hamlet of PLUMPTON in Northamptonshire. Set back from the road and accessed on foot via a short footpath from the road.
Plumpton is a small hamlet in rural Northamptonshire. It has seen a steady decline in residents from the early 19th century. In 1831 there were 14 houses with a total of 75 residents. The church must have been full most Sundays! By 1891 there were 9 houses of which 3 were empty and 18 residents.
By the late 20th century the church had fallen into virtual disuse and it was decided that the Church of England would sell it in 1994.
A group of local people decided to rescue the church. They formed a charitable trust and purchased the church in 1997. The Plumpton Trust is a registered charity ( no:1050414) which is supported through the 'Friends of Plumpton'. This group raise money and carry out maintenance and renovations while preserving the simple beauty of the building.
the church is kept locked and the nearby house are the key holders.
