Commonwealth Pier is located in the South Boston section of Boston. It is in an area that was once part of the Charlestown Naval Shipyard (called the Naval Shipyard Annex). Today, the World Trade Center sits on top of Commonwealth Pier. It is a major center for hotels, events, and conventions (though larger events go to the Boston Convention Center not far away).

Parking is an issue in this area. There are several at ground level parking areas as well as a parking garage nearby. Better, you can take the dedicated electric-CNG bus, the Silver Line, to the pier.

The big World Trade Center building dominates the pier. However, you can walk on either side of the building to take in the sights of Boston Harbor, and this pier is part of Boston's Harborwalk trail. At the end, toward the water and Boston's Logan Airport, there is a sign that provides a historical sketch of the pier. At one time, it was used by the Army as a receiving area; by the state to register vehicles (1920s), part of the Navy Yard, a fish receiving and storage area, and a convention and exhibition center. Today, cruise ships still dock here.

I can't find any sources that say anything about fishing from the pier.
