William Horner was born 30 October 1746 in York County, Pennsylvania, and died 12 October 1824 in Jefferson County (now Hamblen County), Tennessee. He came to Orange County, North Carolina with his father in the 1750s. He married Elizabeth Allrerd on 17 August 1767 in Randolph County, North Carolina. She is the daughter of John Allred, was born 17 August 1747, and died 11 March 1823 in Whitesburg, Jefferson County, Tennessee. William and Elizabeth lived in Randolph County, North Carolina during the American Revolutionary War. William provided supplies to the Continental Army for which he was paid in 1783 in Orange County, North Carolina. Family tradition states that he hauled a four-horse wagon load of beef, that he butchered in North Carolina, to General George Washington at Valley Forge during the winter of 1777/1778. There he met John Coltharp. This may indeed be true as he was recognized for his patriotic public (non-military) service to the North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina Militias. John Coltharp and his brother Eli Strange Coltharp married two of William's daughters. He was awarded grants in what became Tennessee. They settled about 1783 on Bent Creek on the Holston River near Whitesburg in Jefferson County, Tennessee. He was a surveyor, farmer and charter member and Deacon of the Bent Creek Primitive Baptist Church. An unknown traveler died in William's home and was buried on his property. In 1810 William deeded one acre of land, including this burial plot, to the Bent Creek Church as a burial ground. He, Elizabeth and many of his descendants are buried in Bent Creek Cemetery. His grave has a Revolutionary marker placed in front of his original stone. Elizabeth's stone is next to her husband's.
Children of William Horner and Elizabeth Allred are: Miriam Horner, Capt. John Horner, George Horner, Col. William Horner, Mary 'Polly' Horner, Nancy Ann Horner, Esther Horner, Catherine Horner, Thomas Nelson Horner, Cavalier H. Horner, Lavania Horner, Susannah Horner, Elizabeth Horner, Isaac Horner,
