This bus station sits near the centre of the small provincial capital of Surin. The station links this city to the towns and villages within the province, to the other provinces in north eastern Thailand (Esarn), and to Bangkok, and to the border with Cambodia, thus connecting the province to the wider world.

In design the station follows the usual format. It consists of a central, rectangular, covered open waiting area, surrounded by twelve bus parking bays. There are ticket counters inside the waiting area, and at either end of the station.

There is a one way road encircling the bus station. Outside this road are ticket offices for private bus companies, plus entrepreneurial activities ranging from the sale of mobile phones to arc welding gear to lipstsick. There are also tuk-tuk, samloars (rickshaws), and motorbike 'drivers' ready to whisk you and your luggage to your intended destination upon your arrival. (Don't take the first price offered, try one half. As a general guide a short ride ~2kms on a samloar should cost 20 baht)

Every type of bus arrives and departs from this station, from huge Bangkok bound VIP buses to local mini-vans. Thais rely heavily on their bus service for transport, so there are buses leaving and departing at all times of the day and night to destinations all over Thailand.

Food and drink is not found directly in the bus station as such, but there is a small 7/11 at its western end and surrounding the bus station are a host of local food and drink facilities. There is a bus parking area immediately to the south west of the bus station.

Restrooms, there is a set of restrooms at the southern end of the bus station (3rd world restrooms!). Charge 2 baht (~5c us).

Surin is an 'average' town in east Thailand, rice and silk are its two main products, however, Surin is famous for one thing, Elephants! It is a major centre for elephant care and breeding (there is an 'elephant village' outside town). Every November an 'Elephant Show' is held lasting three days. It is impressive, if you are in Thailand at that time, make an effort to attend.
