Based on Maori legend, this anchor chain symbolizes how Stewart Island is the anchor stone for the waka (canoe) that is today called the South Island.

This sculpture is set in the Pilot House Reserve at Stirling Point, a popular tourist stop in New Zealand. There is another sculpture on Stewart Island in the same medium by the same artist provided the full link between the two islands.
