Rest area with toliets at mile 29 of the McCarthy road. The road is a 59 mile long gravel road between AK 4, Egerton Hwy at Chitina and accesses the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve at McCarty and Kennicott.

The rest area is across from the Gilahina River Trestle
A classic reminder of a bygone era, this wooden structure was originally 890 feet long and 90 feet high, required one- half million board feet of timber, and was completed in eight days in the winter of 1911. Because of the rugged landscape, over 15% of the entire railway was built on trestles!
