The entrance to the Fredericksburg City Cemetery and Confederate Cemetery is on Washington Avenue. It is open daily to the public.

The Wallace memorial is the only mausoleum within the cemetery's brick walls. Four columns stand at the granite mausoleum's entrance and there are stained glass windows on the side and back walls. The windows are protected by thick metal mesh and only close scrutiny will reveal their detail.

History:
The Fredericksburg City Cemetery was founded in 1844. The Ladies Memorial Association of Fredericksburg purchased the adjoining land for a Confederate cemetery in 1867. Their purpose was to care for the graves of the Confederate dead who fell on the battlefields. They maintain its care today. Little can be discerned about the actual history of the Wallace mausoleum. Although the city and Confederate cemeteries are now considered one cemetery, the mausoleum stands on what was once the city side.
