The Great Egg Harbor River flows about 50 miles from Berlin, NJ, to the Great Egg Harbor about 5 miles southwest of Atlantic City, NJ. It was given its name by Cornelius Jacobson Mey, a Dutch Explorer. In 1614 when he came to the area, he found that there were so many shore birds and waterfowl and their eggs that he called it "Eyren Haven" or Egg Harbor.
