Mellow Mushroom is based in Atlanta, Georgia and operates as a restaurant franchise.
Mellow Mushroom specializes in pizza, but also serves calzones, hoagies, salads, and other side dishes. Pizza is sold in three sizes, but slices are available during lunch and at some locations late night. They often feature a large selection of beer, typically 20-40 beers on draft and 50 or more bottles. The restaurants are known for their easygoing atmosphere and funky decor. Each store is decorated differently and sometimes there is a unifying theme to the artwork. There is occasionally entertainment provided by a live band or trivia competition. Some stores offer incentives for trying a variety of beer.
Several Mellow Mushrooms deliver, those that do not have a pick-up entrance as a compromise.
History
Mellow Mushroom was started by two Georgia Tech roommates in the early 1970s. They were soon joined by a student from the University of Georgia. The first location is no longer there, but there are several dozen locations operating in Atlanta, elsewhere in Georgia, Louisiana, Indiana, Virginia, South Carolina, Florida, Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, North Carolina, Kentucky, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. Mellow Mushroom has been selling franchises since 1985 and many can be found in college towns, as they are popular with students.
The first Mellow Mushroom to be located outside of Atlanta was in Athens, Georgia, near the University of Georgia. That store renovated an old Wendy's and was open until 2006. In the summer of 2007, a new Mellow Mushroom opened in Athens on Broad Street.
Beginning in 2000, the Mellow Mushroom has expanded outside of college markets to both urban areas such as Jacksonville and to suburban markets. The Mellow Mushrooms that have opened recently are larger and more modern and are no longer located in strip malls. In mid-2008, a Mellow Mushroom franchise opened in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina (outside of Charleston) and Prattville, Alabama. More recently 2 locations opened at the end of November in Evans, GA and Fayetteville, AR. Locations soon to open include Greensboro, NC, Orlando, FL, Columbus, OH, Macon, GA, Milledgeville, GA, and Jacksonville Beach, FL. On Memorial Day, May 25, 2009, A new Mellow Mushroom location was opened in the Village of Providence in Huntsville, Alabama.

We love Mellow Mushroom! The restaurant that's the subject of this waymark is located in the Tinseltown area off Southside Blvd in Jacksonville. The Tinseltown area is named after the large movie theater of the same name located here. So you can grab a bite to eat then head to the movie theater.
