Pompey's Pillar is a 150-200 foot rock outcropping which is historically significant as William Clark stopped here on his way back east on the Lewis & Clark Expedition. While he was here he etched his signature and date into the sandstone of the face of the outcropping. His signature is preserved and the site is listed as a National Monument. The stairs lead to Clark's signature and then on to the top of the Pillar. The number of stair steps exceed 150 on the various sets leading to the top and the signature.
