Athena, designed by artist Jean Westmarcott, Oglethorpe County, Georgia, was carved out of marble from the mountains of Carrara, Italy by the Carlo Nicoli Studio. The pedistal is fashioned of Georgia granite from Elbert County. The sculpture, which stands at the entrance of the Classis Theatre, was unveiled on May 3, 1996.
Many citizens of Athens-Clarke County participated in the planning and funding of the sculpture as a legacy of the Centennial Olympic Games in Georgia. A special grant from Athens '96 Committee funded the pedistal.

The Athenian Oath
