**LATEST UPDATE - 2/16/12**
The Freedom Garden is padlocked and in disrepair. Its future remains in limbo pending the outcome of bankruptcy court proceedings. The carvings still remain but sadly overgrown and barely visible from outside the fence.

The Spirit of Freedom Garden where these sculptures are located is currently locked up.

The wood sculptures created from trees by West African artists, represent the slaves' former home and their ancestors watching their struggle to be free. They were donated by Sandra Taylor.

The garden stands at the site of the planned U.S. National Slavery Museum and is opened daily.
