Se accede a esta unidad, partiendo de la carretera Cartagena a La Azohía, cruce del Alamillo, el cual está en el Km.7, coger el desvío hacia Campillo de Adentro y Faro de Cabo Tiñoso.
Desde esta posición se contempla amplísima panorámica que abarca desde la Punta de Los Aguilones (Escombreras) a Cabo de Gata. Fue proyectada de acuerdo con el Plan de Defensas de Bases Navales de Primo de Rivera, comenzando sus obras en 1.929. Actualmente está fuera de servicio.
Sus dos enormes cañones lograban un alcance próximo a los 35.000 metros, lanzando un proyectil de acero perforante de 885 kilogramos. Cruzaba sus fuegos con su gemela la batería de Las Cenizas, impidiendo que los buques enemigos pudieran bombardear impunemente la Base Naval de Cartagena.
La fachada de entrada a los fosos y de los talleres de reparaciones, son de un estilo arquitectónico historicista, tratando de reproducir un castillo medieval. Es propiedad del Ministerio de Defensa.
