Billings is the largest city in Montana with a population of just over 100,000. The city is the county seat and the county courthouse is located across the street from city hall. The city was founded in 1877 and and established in 1882 in Montana Territory. The town owes its beginnings to the railroad establishing the town bypassing the nearby river town of Coulson. The city is named for Northern Pacific Railroad President Frederick H. Billings.
