PIONEER BURYING GROUND
This cemetery came in use in the early 19th century as a non denomination burying ground, but in 1863 ownership passed to St. Paul's Anglican Church. Prominent pioneers buried here include William Roe (1795 - 1879), a town founder; Dr. Christopher Beswick (1721 - 1839), a pioneer physician; Esther Sayre Robinson Beman (1767 - 1827), mother of Peter, William and Sir John Beverly Robinson; founder Elisha Beman (1760 - 1820); John McDonald (1770 - 1828), a North West Company trader; Ann Roe (1774 - 1839), widow of Walter Roe, last British chief magistrate of Detroit. The cemetery fell in disrepair following establishment of another on Main St. in 1869. It was subsequently levelled and the cairns built.

-July - The Hudson's Bay Company merges with arch rivals, the Montreal-based North West Company, creating unemployment for a substantial proportion of their Métis workforce.
-No foreigners allowed in Russian-American waters, except at regular ports of call.
1839:
-February 15 - Chevalier DeLorimier and others who joined in the Rebellion are executed.
-April 11 - Death of John Galt, novelist, one of the originators of the British American Land Company.
-June 24 - Last meeting of the Committee of Trade, forerunner of the Board of Trade.
-September 26 - Canadian rebels are transported to New South Wales.
-October 19 - Hon C. Thompson, Governor of Upper and Lower Canada, arrives. It is determined that Upper and Lower Canada shall share revenue in the ratio of 2 to 3.
-Lord Durham's report recommends the establishment of responsible government and the union of Upper and Lower Canada to speed the assimilation of French-speaking Canadians.
-Territorial disputes between lumbermen from Maine and New Brunswick lead to armed conflict in the Aroostook River valley (the Aroostook War).
-First Horse Railway in Upper Canada.
-Mount Allison University founded by Charles Frederick Allison in Sackville, New Brunswick.
