These 26 ovens were built by the Wilkeson Coal & Coke Company to process the coal from their mines into more valuable coke. As many as 160 of these ovens were once in operation in Wilkeson. They are the beehive type oven, and were faced with the sandstone from the local quarry . This facing was later removed and used elsewhere. A local resident said that a man used to live in the ovens after they were no longer in production.

The ovens are overgrown now by vines and brush. They can be seen on the right from the road that passes by the Wilkeson school building. Look for the bleachers just past the school.
