The Ledges area is a popular destination for adventurous families that enjoy squeezing through narrow rock passages. The rock formations were formed during the Pennsylvanian Period, about 300 million years ago. The Sharon conglomerate which makes up the ledges contains mostly quartz, as well as numerous small pebbles.

Shelter and trails were build in the 1934 by the
Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).
