Descending from the park atop, replete with ample picnic tables and space for family activities as well as an area dedicated to wood carvings, these 80 steps lead into the gorge carved out over hundreds of years by the mighty Niagara River. As Niagara Falls has eroded the stone back from Queenston some 10,000 years ago to its present location, Niagara Glen is the only real pocket of its kind.
The Niagara Parks Website for the Glen has a good description of this area, and I've heard it said that for each step you descend into the gorge on the staircase represents 100 years of erosion. A beautiful view can bee seen from the top of the stairs, but once you climb down, your adventure is only beginning. At all times please be mindful of the vegetation and other life down here. Never stray from the sanctioned trails, but do take the time to enjoy the beauty of nature, the ruggedness of the rocks, and the power of the river that serves as a natural border between Canada and the United States.
These stairs can be quite busy during tourist season and as such do not make a very good choice for exercise. It would serve you better for access to the established trail system below instead.
