Found her while she was heading north as we were heading west on Holly Road.
Making our way home this evening, we spotted a turtle in the road. (No it wasn't a spotted turtle.) We pulled over and as I was waiting to get the turtle out of the road, a pickup truck was coming the other way. I stood there hoping we weren't going to have to watch "Bubba jus havin' sum fun".
Thankfully the turtle was staying very still as the pickup truck passed over her. I then ran out and picked her up and brought her to the other side of the road.
We posed for some shots, and then I put her in the tall grass and we watched her scurry off into the marshy waters.
Thinking that she was perhaps an Eastern Box Turtle, I started looking online to see for sure when I found that she possibly could be a Blanding's Turtle. If so, she's listed as a species of special concern here in Michigan.
Our first successful turtle crossing. We had two previous chances this year. Sadly, we were far too late for the first turtle, as she was the victim of a Michigan Nillbilly (Michigan has no hills). The second time we passed a turtle the folks behind us pulled over to help her out.
