Nelson Ledges was formed by a glacier plowing a 60 foot shelf of dirt and quartz pebbles during the last ice age. This shelf has eroded into gigantic chunks which fall at odd angles to the rest of the hillside. I highly recommend a visit to this awesome site, which is a state park. It makes a great hike and there's a beautiful 60-foot waterfall on the north end.
