The 51st Fighter Wing, headquartered at Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea, is the most forward deployed wing in the world, providing combat ready forces for close air support, air strike control, counter air, interdiction, theater airlift, and communications in the defense of the Republic of Korea.
51st Fighter Wing's mission provides ready Airmen to execute combat operations and receive follow-on forces. Our wing with its 24 PAA, F-16 and A-10 squadrons, along with a C-12 airlift flight and a myriad of base support agencies conducts the full spectrum of missions providing for the defense of the Republic of Korea. Every member of the Osan team is vital in maintaining stability in Northeast Asia.
To accomplish their mission, the men and women of the 51st Fighter Wing work in one of four groups: the Operations Group, Maintenance Group, Mission Support Group or Medical Group. Over 20 squadrons comprise the four groups, which includes two fighter squadrons: the 25th Fighter Squadron (A-10s), known as the "Assam Draggins" and the 36th Fighter Squadron (F-16s), known as the "Fiends".
The 8th Fighter Wing's mission is to "Defend the Base, Accept Follow-On Forces, Take the Fight North!" From all of our squadrons and support agencies to the 40 F-16s assigned to the wing, the Wolf Pack is ready to accomplish this mission. The 8th Fighter Wing is the host unit at Kunsan Air Base, and is assigned to Seventh Air Force, headquartered at Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea.
