Loon is an excellent medium-sized family resort. And its proximity to Boston, about 2 hours away, will ensure its popularity. Although they claim to limit ticket sales I've found that the mountain can get quite crowded at times, especially on the gondola. The recent addition of a high-speed quad has done much too alleviate some of this problem.
The terrain is mostly intermediate cruisers with some good beginner trails and a couple of steep testers. In the last couple of years they have spent a considerable amount of money to increase snowmaking to cover 99% of skiable terrain. Loon also has an excellent base village area with all of the amenities. In the next couple of years Loon plans to expand to another peak with more quads and more base facilities. For now, Loon remains a good choice as a family destination resort.
I have been skiing this mountain for over 25 years.
