RD center Amersfoort - Netherlands - Geographical Centers on Waymarking.com

The Dutch benchmarking system (RD short for RijksDriehoeksmeting or Federal Triangulation) is based on a center point near the true geographical center of The Netherlands.

This church in Amersfoort was chosen as the center for the RD system. Coordinates are written in an X (east) and Y (north) coordinate in meter precision, so the coordinates of this church became X = 0 Y = 0.

Around 1970, however, the point was moved away to the southwest to make all coordinates in The Netherlands positive, giving this church now the RD coordinates X = 155000, Y = 463000.
