WCCO, which stands for Washburn Crosby Co., began broadcasting in October of 1924. It is a 50,000 watt clear channel broadcaster, so it can be received for 24-hours without sign-off. At night, this powerful station can be heard throughout most of the US.
WCCO originally transmitted on the 810kHz frequency, but in 1941 it switched to the current 830kHz frequency.
Today's News/Talk format makes it an information staple to the local community and just as important today as it did back when it first started broadcasting.
