Friedrich August (1750-1827) from the Wettin dynasty, which ruled Saxony as princes-electors. Friedrich August was the first to gain the title of King of Saxony (1805-1827). He also held the title of Duke of Warsaw in the times of Napoleonic Wars.
The statue by Ernst Rietschel was first put on display at Zwinger in 1843. It changed its location several times and, eventually, it was installed at Schlossplatz in Dresden on May 29, 2008.
