Set on the foreshore of Portland Harbour, Portland's Visitor Information Centre also houses the Maritime Discovery Centre Museum.

The Maritime Discovery Centre Museum houses Sperm whale skeleton and life boat used for the rescue of survivors of the Admella shipwreck in 1859, among other curiosities.
Building is built with a floor plan in the shape of an anchor, was designed by Architects, Pels Innes Neilson Kosloff Pty Ltd, who won the Royal Australian Institute of Architects 1998 National Urban Design Award for their work on the centre.
The centre is also the start of the Great South West Walk a 250 km loop trail along the coastline to Nelson near the South Australian border, along the Glenelg river and return via the Cobboboonee National Park.
Local attractions & accommodation can be booked from the centre which also has bicycles for hire.
