The St. Paul Lutheran Church was organized May 24, 1868. The congregation was incorporated January 26, 1869. The congregation's first church building at 416 South Fourth St. was dedicated Jan. 7, 1872. The first church building was abandoned due to damage received in the 1937 flood. The present English Gothic building was constructed using bricks and lumber salvaged from the earlier building. The current building was dedicated November 26, 1939.
