The caves are situated in Central Bohemia, 7 km South of Beroun, in the middle of the nature reserve of Czech Karst, not far from castles Krivoklát and Karlštejn. The caves were discovered in 1950 and made accessible for the public in 1959.

The caves are developed in 400 milion years old Devonian limestones, consist of three levels to be found 70 m under the ground-level and over 2 km long. The accessible part is 590 m long and sightseeing tour lasts one hour.

The top level housed in the 15th century a secret workshop of money forgers. The cave can boast of unique opal-bearing decorations, as well as numerous paleonthological exavations, documenting the history of earth Nature of the past 1,5 milion years.

Caves were discovered in 1950 during mine works in nearby mines. But hundreds years ago in 15th century has started a story about small boy - shepherd, who on the hill one day saw thin stripe of smoke. he came to the smoke and realized, that it went out from the earth and he tried to got into small smoke hole. he succeded ind inside big caves he discovered man, who gave him money for promise, that boy never tell anybody about him. boy agreed and returned up. but than he hid his coins and ran down to the village to tell villagers about man. whole village came back to hill with boy, but there they found nothing, man probably stopped the fire and blocked entranced to the smoke shaft and among many trees and bushes boy wasnt able to find entrance again, nor his small treasure. villagers were angry, they thought, that boy only made jokes and boy only got whipping. nobody belived him....nobody till 1950 when caves were discovered and in caves cavemen found secret workshop of money forgers from 15th century.
