This jail is one of the restored buildings in the historic district of Mount Savage, Maryland. This jail more likely housed those causing public disturbances than hardened criminals.
The jail and other historic buildings can be visited by appointment. See the Mount Savage Historical Society web site for more information.

Mount Savage had a significant industrial history in the 19th century. The first iron rails made in America were milled here. Locomotives, iron works and fire bricks were the primary industries.
