In the center of the Loring Park dog run, this 16-foot tall, 800 pound, wood-carved totem pole was custom designed by renowned canine artist, Bill Blaxley, sculpted by world champion chainsaw sculptor, Dennis Roghair, and commissioned by Ray Harris, a Loring resident and downtown Minneapolis developer.

As the dogs play and explore the rocks, benches and other pieces of equipment, the owners can read the humbling or inspiring messages carved in a steel sleeve protecting the base.

• The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue.

• You become responsible forever for what you have tamed.

• If you get to thinking you're a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else's dog around.

• Money will buy you a pretty good dog, but it won't buy the wag of his tail.

• No matter how little money and how few possessions you own, having a dog makes you rich.

• There is no psychiatrist in the world like a puppy licking your face.

• My goal in life is to be as good of a person as my dog already thinks I am.

• Dogs are not our whole life, life but they make our lives whole.

• Who ever said you can't buy happiness forgot little puppies.

• Don't accept your dog's admiration as conclusive evidence that you are wonderful.

• The dog was created specifically for children. He is the god of frolic.
