Charles Robinson was born in 1840 in Dundee, Scotland. Robinson served in the Civil War as a Boatswain's Mate in the United States Navy aboard the
USS Baron de Kalb. He was awarded with the Congressional Medal of Honor for distinguished bravery in the Yazoo River Expedition (December 1862). The mission of the USS Baron de Kalb on this expedition, to capture or destroy rebel transport ships, was successful.
Charles Robinson died 21 April 1896 and was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Halifax, Nova Scotia. His grave is just off a main pathway and stands out because of the distinctive US military insignia not often found in Canadian cemeteries.
