The Vermont Chamber of Commerce says this is one of the TOP TEN summer events in Vermont. Well, yeah, the last weekend in April isn't exactly summer, and sometimes the weather doesn't cooperate, but it's close enough for those of us who have had enough of winter. Today, April 25, 2009, the temperature is in the 80s.
2009 is the 43rd year of this festival, which attracts some 50,000 people annually. This year, there's some added significance in the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlain's "discovery" of Vermont (it was Champlain who named the Green Mountains in 1609).
As to the admission: most of the events are free. Some things, like the "Sap Run" carry entry fees, and you're probably not going to find a free pancake breakfast anywhere.
