This locomotive is part of the display at the Gaithersburg History Park which includes the historic train station, the Freight House community museum and other train cars.
Steam Engine #14 was built by Alco Schenectady in 1916 as #59309. By 1950, it and a sister Engine #13 were purchased from the Kelly's Creek and Northwestern Railroad by the Buffalo Creek and Gauley RR of West Virginia, even though many other railroads were beginning to move to diesel. A small railroad, it was kept busy as a subsidiary of Elk River Coal & Lumber Company. In 1960, the BC&G was the largest all-steam railroad in the US. As the company operations faded, the mine, lumber company and railroads were sold off with the last steam train making its last run in 1963.
