The Gazette was founded in 1946 from the merger of the "Colorado Springs Evening Telegraph" and the "Colorado Springs Gazette" to form the Colorado Springs Gazette-Telegraph. In the 1960's a second newspaper came to town, again giving us evening and morning rivals. They also merged in the 1980's, and today's Gazette is the final product. It's a member of Freedom Communications group of newspapers, this one being the 2nd largest in the chain.
