This boundary stone shows WD40, refers to the war department and is one of 46 similar stones used to mark out the Willsworthy firing range. They date from when the army purchased its first tract of land, virtually following the line of the old Willsworthy Manor in about 1900.
This stone is completely covered by gorse it took me some time to find it, after I walked past it several times. It is situated between the stone track and hedge.
