This is the first authentic Torii gate in Canada. It is located in Sequoia Park, directly across from the museum. The gate was a gift from the people of Ishikari, to commemorate 10 years as "sister cities".
Traditionally, torii gates mark the entrances to Shinto shrines, or occasionally Buddhist temples. They have come to be a symbol of Japan.
