The tomb has two plaques which read as follows:
'Shut in this sepulchre lies the ashes of Faire Penyston who loved by the most worthy of her time, removed to heaven, so to draw up her lover's eyes to the divine beauty of that Deitie wherein, she may love all that love her and not sin.'

On the other plaque the details read:
'Thomas Penyston Baronett in testimony of his true affection unto the virtuous Lady his wife, Martha, Lady Penyston erected this monument to her memory. Daughter unto St Thomas Temple, Knight & Baronet. She died the ? of January 1619 at the age of ? One child she had in this church lying also interred.'

The dog lies at her feet, obviously a fitting memorial to her and to the dog. Unfortunately we can't find any more information on the specific relationship between them. The left front and back paw has been broken off with the end of the tail.
Breed: Blood Hound

Date Built: 1619/01/01
