This bronze statue of Wellington, in which he rides without saddle or stirrups, is in front of the Royal Exchange in the heart of the City of London. The pedestal is of Peterhead granite.
Francis Legatt Chantrey died before the statue was finished, and the project was completed by Henry Weekes.
The statue was erected by the Corporation of the City of London in recognition of the help of the Duke in passing the London Bridge Approaches Act of 1827 enabling the rebuilding of London Bridge.
